• Apple Watch Specs Revealed in New Apple S1 System-on-a-chip Teardown

If you got your Apple Watch or are patiently waiting for one and are curious just what kind of hardware specs that the Apple Watch has, then a new tear-down performed by ABI Research could very well be of interest.

The tear-down offers new information on the specs under the hood of the Apple Watch. Inside, Apple's new S1 system-on-a-chip offers integrated storage, memory, CPU, GPU, and wireless controllers among other things.

The analysis reveals that the S1 system-on-a-chip gives the Apple Watch 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, although the internal storage could have been guessed before the tear-down simply by going to the Apple Watch application on your iPhone and viewing the storage usage under Settings > General > Usage. The RAM is manufactured by Elpida, while the flash storage is manufactured by Sandisk & Toshiba.

Moreover, a custom CPU/GPU system, accelerometer/gyroscope system, and wireless controllers for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC (near-field communication for Apple Pay) are present. Another gem identified in the chip-set is the wireless charging controller, which allows the Apple Watch to be charged without any plugs.

You can see all of the components labeled, compliments of ABL Research, can be found above.
