• ResearchKit Poised to Become a Key Player in Drug R&D

A growing number of prominent pharmaceutical companies are expressing interest in Apple's ResearchKit as they invest untold sums of time and resources into creating and improving upon an assortment of drugs.

According to BuzzFeed News, Apple’s ResearchKit could help big pharma collect massive amounts of data that could be put to good use for research and development purposes.

GlaxoSmithKline, for example, being a leading global drug developer, is among the interested parties, telling BuzzFeed News it is now actively working on "integrating (ResearchKit) into clinical trials and planning to start in coming months.”

And Purdue Pharma is right there with them. The powerhouse drug developer famous for its OxyContin is looking into the possibility of deploying ResearchKit for R&D purposes.

“We know that all these changes in tech are going to impact health care, but we don’t know exactly how,” Larry Pickett Jr., Purdue’s vice president and chief information officer, is quoted in the report. “People have been talking about it for a long time, but haven’t been able to figure out how to leverage that data and take advantage of it. My team views ResearchKit as a very significant milestone in being able to move that capability ahead.”
