• Motorola Unveils its 2015 Smartphone Lineup: The Moto X Style, Moto X Play and Moto G

Motorola recently announced three new Android smartphones including the flagship Moto X Style, the one that is directly going to be competing with Apple’s next-gen iPhone which will likely launch this fall. The Style has a 5.7-inch, quad-HD screen, which jumps way far ahead of last year’s 5.2-inch 1080p display on last year’s Moto X. The internals tout a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3 gigabytes of RAM and a 21-megapixel rear camera paired with a 5-megapixel front module, both of which have flash. The smartphone also touts front-facing stereo speakers and similar to its predecessor, can be customized with various metal accents and back materials with silicon being a new option.

According to Motorola, the new 3,000 milliamp-hour battery should help to supply up to 30 hours of “mixed use” and offer a feature called TurboCharge that can restore 10 hours of battery life with a 15-minute charge. Much like other smartphones, the device will come with 16, 32 and 64 GB storage options with the added option of using a micro SD card up to 128 GB as well.

Motorola has yet to reveal pricing on the device or provide a final release date for the standard edition but did promise that the device will be “$200 to $300 less” than competing Apple and Samsung phones. Other important information includes that the device will be running Android Lollipop 5.1.1 with OS additions such as Moto Assist and Moto Display. In September, shoppers will be able to pick up a Pure Edition, which starts at $399 and comes unlocked for all US carriers without any Motorola add-ons as well.

As far as the other devices in the lineup, Motorola also has the Moto X Play, which scales back to a 5.5-inch 1080p screen with a Snapdragon 615 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It does however have a water-repellant body and a 3,630 milliamp-hour battery which should let the phone run up to two days. Furthermore, Internal storage is limited to 16 to 31 gigabytes, which will be expandable via micro SD. The Play should be launching in August but only in Canada, Europe and Latin America. It will also be available in the UK where it should start at £299 ($467).

Last but not least, the company also revealed the budget-oriented Moto G, which has been upgraded with a waterproof shell, Moto maker body customization, a 2,470 milliamp-hour battery and a Snapdragon 410 processor paired with a vanilla version of Android 5.1.1. The rear camera uses the same 13-megapixel module from the Nexus 6. This phone has 1 GB of RAM by default and can be upgraded to 2. The device is otherwise largely unchanged with a 5-inch 720p screen and 8 gigabytes of internal storage, which can be supplemented via a micro SD as well. The base model of the Moto G went on sale recently for $180 in the US with Moto Maker pushing the price up to $220.
