• Apple and BMW to Possibly 'Revisit' Plans on Partnering for Apple Car at a Later Point

Previously, we reported that Apple and BMW were in talks of partnering up to work on the Cupertino-based company’s mystery project, the Apple Car. It was noted that Apple wanted to use BMW’s electric i3 vehicle as a basis for their Apple Car, however, that didn’t actually turn into a signed deal. Reuters has a new report in which they were able to get some inside information on what happened between the two companies and what the future brings from the two.

Back in 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook made a trip out to the BMW factory in Leipzig, Germany along with some other senior execs to see how the company’s electric car is manufactured. But according to Reuters, Apple wants to “explore developing a passenger car on its own," so no real deal was reached. According to Reuters and BMW’s senior source noted,

During the visit, Apple executives asked BMW board members detailed questions about tooling and production and BMW executives signaled readiness to license parts, one of the sources said. News of the Leipzig visit first emerged in Germany's Manager-Magazin last week.

"Apple executives were impressed with the fact that we abandoned traditional approaches to car making and started afresh. It chimed with the way they do things too.
This means that German carmaker BMW and giant tech company Apple have no plans currently to develop and invent a car jointly. However, a source from BMW noted that it is possible for “exploratory talks” to be revisited at a later point. Since Apple really has no experience in the field of cars, BMW may give the company some tips and even help Apple somewhere down the line. This could definitely help speed things up for Apple.

We’re not quite sure when Apple plans on unveiling their car, but it is believed that the company has plans to introduce it by 2020. No clear information has been given yet, so far there are just tons of rumors going around.
