• Launch of MCX's Mobile Payment Service CurrentC Postponed to Next Year

A new report from Re/Code is claiming that MCX’s CurrentC mobile payment system may have a delayed launch and possibly wait until next year to release it. It was noted that CEO Brian Mooney is working to get things right before officially releasing it. The big Apple Pay competitor was expected to launch sometime this year, as they partnered with retail companies including CVS, Rite Aid, Target, Best Buy and many others. According to Mooney, “faster is always better” but “doing it right” is the goal.

Retail companies like Rite Aid and CVS offered rival Apple Pay when the Cupertino-based company first launched it in October, but quickly took it out soon after. It was reported that MCX had written in their contracts that vendors can only offer their wireless payment service, CurrentC. However, popular pharmacy chain Rite Aid announced yesterday that they would be offering Apple Pay beginning August 15th. We’re not sure what changed in between October and now, but it is likely that it’s because their contract ends at the end of this year.

We wonder if CurrentC will get as big as Apple Pay even after trying their best to ‘make things right.’ More and more retailers are beginning to offer Apple Pay and we truly believe more are on the way. Do you believe in CurrentC, or do you think Apple Pay will dominate all mobile payment services? Share your thoughts with us in the section below.

Security/Fraud avoidance would favor this product being abandoned & never launched.

No CC's. Have to have access to checking account where there's ZERO protection if something goes wrong other than what your bank provides you. PASS!

Hopefully cvs will follow suit. Been using walgreens which is slightly farther than cvs.
