• Report Claims Qualcomm is the only Modem Supplier for Apple's Next-Gen iPhones

According to a recent report, Qualcomm appears to be the only official modem supplier for the new iPhones that are shipping next month. The company is reportedly partnering with TSMC to build modems for this year’s iPhones, using the latter’s 20-nanometer process. The report did mention that Intel could start taking up orders in 2017 as Apple continues to look for additional modem providers.

This report comes in response to a recent memo by Northland Capital Markets analyst, Gus Richard, who recently claimed that Intel may have won as much as half of the modem orders for next-generation iPhone. He added that Apple has been considering an Intel modem “for a while” now.

It should be noted that DigiTimes does have a spotty track record when it comes to any Apple predictions. That being said, it sometimes does offer credible information, especially when it comes to the supply sector.

As far as Apple goes, the company is expected to ship at least two new iPhones next month. It’s being rumored that a press event will be held around September 9, followed by a launch around September 18th. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what end’s up happening.
