• Skype Launches Redesigned iOS App With Improved App Navigation and Multitasking

On Thursday, Skype has released a major update for its iOS applications for the iPhone/iPod touch and the iPad, which are separate applications in the iOS App Store. Both applications have been given the version number 6.0 in the latest update.

Skype's major new feature in this update is the completely re-designed application, which completely rids the application of that hideous flow interface that the application adopted last year and adopts a simpler-to-use basic iOS interface, which means you now have tabs at the bottom of the application again and don't have to swipe between screens to get where you want to go.

The new tabbed interface, which is very much a blast from the application's past, makes navigation through the application much faster and easier. The tabs at the bottom of the application can be used to bring you to all of your individual open chats, your contact list, your phone call history, or your own profile information. The improvements also make multitasking more efficient, and you are also able to do things within the application while talking on the phone with someone via Skype.

Moreover, the application comes with a new search feature that makes it super easy to find what you're looking for. If you remember talking about something with someone, but can't seem to find when you sent the messages, you can search for it and Skype will take you right to it.

The iPad version of the application gets all the same improvements, but also gets integration with the iPad address book, location sharing, new large animated emoticons, the ability to start group chats, interactive notifications, and improvements for sending and receiving photographs.

It's safe to say Microsoft has been hard at work to make this update great, as well as getting the iPhone and iPad versions of the applications on the same page. Existing users of Skype for iOS will find the respective updates waiting for them under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download Skype for iPhone for free from this App Store link, or you can download Skype for iPad for free from this App Store link.
