• Twitter Revamps Mobile iOS App for Uniformity Across Devices

On Tuesday, Twitter released an update for its mobile application on the iOS platform that the company says will make the application feel like a more uniform experience across all of your devices, whether they're smaller smartphones, larger smartphones, or even tablets.

Twitter says that the update makes the application look and feel the same across all devices, whether you're using the application in portrait orientation or landscape orientation, you'll be able to experience the same good look and feel on each of your iOS devices with Tuesday's version 6.36 release.

Twitter notes that on all of your devices, quote Tweets, trending topics in search, and product and place pages will be much more uniform and easier to access, which most of you using the iPad application are probably well aware of the difficulties when compared to the iPhone version of the application. This might be the very first time in years that the Twitter application has actually felt like a universal application that the social network didn't spend more time developing on for one device.

Twitter's new Adaptive UI is one of the most important characteristics in this update:

    Adaptive UI

Reading your Timeline should be a great experience on any iOS device, no matter the screen size or orientation. For this reason, we must consider different devices and their characteristics. So we built our own responsive system, starting with the typographic elements that make a great reading experience, and built from there.

    Characteristics we look at include:

    • kind of device (phone or tablet)
    • orientation
    • canvas (size of the current view)
    • size class (whether the canvas is small and compact or broad and expansive)
    • typographic settings and constraints

By examining each of these characteristics, we can determine an optimum line length that makes reading comfortable and easy, regardless of the text size youíve chosen. We can adjust the baseline type size so the content feels right relative to the size of the view. We can adjust image presentation for the orientation of your screen, giving you a better photo browsing experience. We can change the presentation of information: views that use push navigation on a phone may live side-by-side on a wide enough screen. We can optimize behaviors: whatís easily accessible to your thumb on your phone may be hard to reach on a tablet if we donít adapt to the environment.
With the more uniform experience, Twitter promises better delivery of readability even on the largest displays, and an experience that uses proper spacing to make the application look nice and feel fluid. You can read Twitter's whole spiel on the update on their blog at this link.

Twitter users will find today's update waiting for them under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Twitter for free from this App Store link.
