• Apple Announces Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil iPad Pro Accessories

Apple on Wednesday announced a new iPad Pro with a huge display and major improvements to hardware performance.

Along with it, Apple has announced two new accessories: a hardware keyboard and a pointing device (stylus). Apple is calling the hardware keyboard a Smart Keyboard and is calling the stylus the Apple Pencil.

The Smart Keyboard is much like a smart cover, but it has a built-in hardware keyboard. The look and feel of the smart keyboard is still very much like the original smart cover, but when you open it, youíll get a keyboard interface. Apple introduced a new connection technology for the iPad Pro that allows the smart keyboard to attach to the larger surface area.

The Apple Pencil is able to detect force in your taps and drags, making it the perfect tool for artists that want to draw on the iPad Pro. The force can help the user choose how thick or heavy a stroke is compared to lighter taps and drags. The Apple Pencil has a Lightning connector that lets you charge the device right inside of the iPad Proís Lightning port.

The Apple Pencil will retail for $99, while the Smart Keyboard will retail for $169.

Nice of Apple to invite Microsoft on stage considering they copied their "case like nothing seen before"...

Really shocked about the stylus. Steve's influence is 100% gone.
At best it'll be a small niche group of people, or those with too much money, that will bother with them.

It was also another very non-Steve move to invite MS up to demo the pro functions instead of taking the opportuniyt to pimp their own productivity suite. I guess they decided they'll sell professional productivity better with the industry leader.

Will there be a place to store the stylus inside the body of the ipad? If not, this is completely stupid.

Agreed. Why does it not clip onto the Keyboard Connector to charge? Missed opportunity there imo.

way over priced add ons. I also think it needs a dedicated OS of it's own, to allow more abilities than iOS but not as complex as Os X so you can still use it well as a table(t)

That thing is going to snap right off when charging. It should use the smart connector, it should stow with the new keyboard, and they should be bundled together. Only reason I can see to sell them apart is to charge WAY too much for the keyboard or to make it available for other devices, but they didn't say that the pencil works with anything else. Is is possible the the pencil works with iPhone 6S Plus?
