• Cook and Lisa Jackson Attend White House Dinner, Cook Speaks to Indian Prime Minister

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, and environment and government affairs chief, Lisa Jackson, both joined several other tech industry figures at President Obama’s head table for Friday’s White House Dinner in honor of visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping. Cook also met with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this past weekend as well.
The dinner on Friday capped off President Xi’s two-day visit to Washington. Just earlier in the day, a joint press conference was held to open discuss a variety of topics including trade agreements, military relations and cybersecurity.

Previously, President Xi met with America’s tech giants in Seattle on Wednesday where he delivered a policy speech and took part in a roundtable to discuss economic and cybersecurity issues. Several recent Chinese hacks against the US caused concern for several industry heads, making corporate spying a key pivot for ongoing government talks. Similar to how it applies to Apple, China’s stance on data protection leaves much to be desired. The company is a bit hesitant to store data on Chinese servers due to certain laws that could force Apple to one day hand over sensitive files.

Aside from ongoing talks with China, Cook also met with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They discussed how the company might benefit the country’s economy in terms of jobs and in terms of Modi’s Digital India movement. Many are speculating that India is set to be Apple’s “next China” as the market is one that has a huge potential to be tapped by the Cupertino California company.

We’ll have to see how things pan out for Apple and its international efforts, particularly in China and India.
