On Friday, Microsoft released an update for its mobile Skype application on the iOS platform with new features intended for use on Apple's newest mobile operating system: iOS 9.
Skype is still a separate application on the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, so updates to both applications actually include different things. In the iPhone version of the application, today's update adds full iOS 9 support, as well as the ability to reply to Skype notifications from anywhere in iOS without having to launch the Skype application. The application also adds support for iOS 9's new Spotlight capabilities, allowing users to start chats right from Spotlight with a simple search.
The iPad version of the Skype application gets all of the aforementioned features, as well as support for split-screen multitasking on iOS 9 iPads. Microsoft also says that the update fixes a problem that users were having with low call volume levels while trying to carry out a call with the application.
Existing users of these applications will will find the updates waiting for them under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Skype for iPhone for free from this App Store link, or you can download the latest version of Skype for iPad for free from this App Store link.
