Remember when unlimited data plans were the way to go a few years back and then some U.S. mobile carriers started phasing the plan out, while others still honored it to consumers who held onto it? Well Verizon Wireless is now changing the monthly price of unlimited data plans for those who were grandfathered in. According to The Verge, Verizon will be increasing the price of unlimited data plans by $20.
The monthly price per line for those holding onto the company’s unlimited plan will hike from $29.99 a month to $49.99 a month. The Verge reported that the increase in price will begin next month, starting the beginning of November. Apparently there’s less than 1% of Verizon customers still on the grandfathered unlimited plan, so it shouldn’t affect too many customers. However, we’re sure those affected by this price increase won’t be happy about it.
$49.99 will be the price of the unlimited data plan alone, which means it will be added on top of the customer’s text and voice plan. This means that for those who have Verizon’s Nationwide Talk and Text 450 Plan ($59.99/month) will have to add an additional $29.99, making the total bill $109.98. Do keep in mind, this is just for the Nationwide Talk and Text 450 Plan- for those paying more already, it will be even more expensive.
Keep in mind that this price increase will only affect those who are out of contract and are paying month-to-month. Those currently still on a two-year contract won’t be affected by the price increase until the end of their term. It was noted that corporate and government accounts won’t be affected by this change either.
