• A Hiring Freeze at Pegatron Sparks Speculation of a Weakening Demand for iOS Products

Though Apple has been indicating that it is on track for a record setting holiday quarter, a report mentioning that there is a hiring freeze at supplier Pegatron has fueled further speculation that the demand for the company’s products is slowing down. The folks over at China Daily, which continue to say that demand for Apple products “has waned considerably,” are reporting that the sales of the iPhone 6s have been “disappointing.”

This information comes despite the Cupertino California company indicating that iPhone sales are on pace to grow once again this upcoming quarter, possibly to the point where the company’s sales eclipse those of the holiday 2014 period, which was the company’s best in its entire history.

The recent report does include quotes from a pair of ex-Pegatron employees who spoke of being overworked while at the supplier. One of them mentioned that they were afraid of being laid off after the alleged hiring freeze went into place. For its part, Apple has warned observers several times to not read into the supply chain data with Cook himself stating that his company’s supplier network is so vast and complicated. Cook said the following regarding the matter:

Even if a particular data point were factual, it would be impossible to interpret that data point as to what it meant for our business.
Reports from the supply chain continue to trickle in over the years despite Cook’s comments, many of which tend to predict negative results for the Apple. Fortunately for the Cupertino California company, the overall sales and revenue continues to grow steadily, most recently to $51.5 billion in the just concluded September quarter.

The Cupertino California company has projected that the revenue for the December quarter will be somewhere between $75.5 billion and $77.5 billion, with gross margins falling somewhere around 39% and 40%. We’ll have to wait and see how this turns out.
