A new beta feature called Text Reply has been recently released by Pebble for its Pebble Time smartwatches and iPhone owners. This new feature allows iOS users to send voice and preset replies to text messages right from the watch. Before this, the only device capable of doing such a thing was the Apple Watch. This is great news, however, there is a huge catch to it- currently, only AT&T post-paid subscribers are allowed to test drive the new beta feature on the Pebble Time, Time Steel, or Time Round.
Users must have version 3.4 of the Pebble Time iPhone app and download v3.7 firmware update for the watch in order to test out the feature. Pebble mentioned that they are working on enabling more carriers to have Text Reply. Although this was noted, no additional details or information was provided. To start using iOS Text Reply beta, follow the steps below to get everything set up:
1. Update your Pebble Time iPhone app to version 3.4 or higher.
2. After updating the iPhone app, update your Pebble Time’s firmware to version 3.7 or higher. Select Menu » Support » Update Your Pebble if you aren’t prompted automatically.
3. From the iOS app, navigate to Menu » Settings » Actionable Notifications to set up Text Replies for the first time.
4. Follow the setup instructions.
5. After successful setup, notifications received from the Messages app will have the option to reply with voice or a list of pre-defined responses.
6. Note: Successfully sent Pebble replies will NOT appear in the iOS Messages app. The reply is sent as an SMS through AT&T directly, and not the Messages app.
