Shuhei Yoshida, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment, recently stated that his company intends to release an official Remote Play title that will allow users to stream games from their PlayStation 4 to a Mac or PC. The Twitter announcement came as a response to a streaming solution for Window machines created by Twisted, an indie developer.
The game streaming feature dubbed Remote Play by Sony features let users play their favorite titles on a remote computing device connected via a local Internet connection. If the service sounds familiar, it’s because Microsoft debuted an identical service on Xbox One, allowing users to sling games to a PC running Windows 10.
As of right now, the official PS4 Remote Play app is limited to the PlayStation Vita portable game system and newer Sony Xperia devices. For smartphones and tablets that are compatible, Sony markets a PS4 DualShock 4 controller mount, which enables finer controls than virtual nubs and buttons.
Though Yoshida failed to offer details on the upcoming Remote Play version for Mac and PC, it was assumed that Sony is looking to add DualShock 4 compatibility. This is particularly the case since many PS4 games require the need to use an analog stick, face button, shoulder button and in some cases, even touchpad controls for proper user interaction.
We’ll have to see what comes of the whole ordeal and how the gaming consoles evolve to accommodate the new tech trends.
