• Google Shuttering Songza Next Month in Bigger Bid to Battle Apple Music

In an effort to push full steam ahead with Google Play Music in the new year, Google is laying the groundwork for a more concerted battle with Apple Music by shuttering Songza.

Following its acquisition of Songza in July of last year, Google Play Music has integrated many of the features and components that made Songza a hot prospect in the first place. And now, according to VentureBeat, the time for Songza to stand alone is approaching its end.

The service will be closed down next month.

"Itís now time for us to focus on building a single, cohesive product," an email from the Songza team reads. "So as of January 31, 2016, Songza will become Google Play Music, and you will no longer be able to access Songza.com or the Songza mobile apps. HEY! Thereís no crying! Are you crying? Thereís no crying in music streaming! Moving to Google Play Music is free, and your favorite playlists can come with you! Pinky swear."

So if you're a Songza user, you now have until the end of January to join the flock headed to Google Play Music as a result of Songza's announcement.

Also much for Google always keeping acquired services going. I guess they only do it when it's doesn't affect their ambitions.
