• Apple Apparently Taps Out with Topsy

    On December 2, 2013, MMi reported Apple's acquisition of social-media analytics firm Topsy Labs, Inc. in a deal worth an estimated $200 million.

    Topsy, if you're not familiar, was a company designed to analyze tweets and other social media information to help track consumer sentiment. It's vital information in the business of ad targeting and measuring event or campaign exposure.

    But now, almost two years to the date of our report, we've learned that Apple has apparently shut down Topsy. Weve searched our last tweet, was the final Topsy post on Twitter tonight. As for the Topsy website, it's now a re-direct to an Apple support page for mobile search assistance.

    No other comment was offered Tuesday by the team at Apple or Topsy. If we learn more, an update will be provided at that time.

      For a purely information company, not surprising that they'd just disappear. I'm sure the functionality will be absorbed into the Apple ecosystem to provide that information for Apple. Not only for their own ads, but to analyze competitor info as well.
