• Apple Watch 2 going into trial production this month

Quanta is reportedly set to enter trial production of the Apple Watch 2 by the end of this month, with a likely launch around April. That means we’d see the sequel wearable just a year after Apple introduced the product line.

If reports are correct, Apple is sticking with the same manufacturer that produced the first-generation Apple Watch. In a previous report, it was suggested that Apple may also call in the services of Inventec, Wistron and Foxconn Electronics — all companies it has previously worked with — to help build the follow-up smartwatch.

That Apple would stick with Quanta isn’t too much of a surprise given that Quanta chairman Barry Lam publicly commented that an Apple Watch 2 is very much in the works.

Previous rumors suggested the Apple Watch 2 will retain the same size, shape and resolution as its predecessor, but will feature a larger battery, added FaceTime camera and greater independence from the iPhone. Additional high-end models costing $1,000-plus are also supposedly in the pipeline.

Just give us GPS!! With good built in GPS and a heart rate monitor, the Apple watch could do everything comparably priced dedicated exercise/running catches can plus a ton more. I would sell my Garmin and by an Apple Watch in a heartbeat if they just added GPS.

The combination of FaceTime, a good microphone, wireless earphones as supposedly planned for the new iPhone, Siri and a faster cpu, would make a killer device I think. Oh and good software :-)

Where do they honestly think there going to fit a camera?

I don't think a camera is needed but being able to answer FaceTime video calls as FaceTime audio automatically would be nice.

I'm still waiting for the second gen so I wouldn't know about using one. But I'm also curious if the 1st gens prices would be cheaper if there's not much difference in hardware.

My biggest pet peeve is the battery life. I feel it should last at least 48 hours with usage. Camera would be cool but not a deal breaker. GPS and heart rate monitor working as advertised would be awesome.

      I agree.

But if you add all these new features even with bigger battery it would not last all that long...

I think they'll make it the battery last the same in this generation.

Battery has never bothered me on mine. I think since I got it only ever got down in the 20% range once.

I have the black stainless steel model. No secret, just how I use it. Only time I ever came close to draining the battery was after one night where I put it on the charger but the charger wasn't plugged in. I still made it to the next night fine, it was close though.

Simon, I have the black stainless 42mm it's a nice watch hey.. Fair enough I'm left with less than 10% every night. It's good however because it still lets you see the time even if it's flat for a few days.

I don't have a watch yet waiting to see what the new one has in store and see if the old generation will cost less. But I agree it's all in how you use it which is what I would assume or like to experience if I get one.

Do you have "Activity" notifications ON? I have those turned off. Reminders every hour to stand up might be consuming battery.

Yeah I keep Activity on... I should turn them off hey, they are quite annoying.
