• iPhone 8 Could Feature a Dual-Curve OLED Display

Another analyst has chimed in on the outlook of Apple’s 2017 iPhone, again focused on the display.

One of the most talked about features of Apple’s future iPhone is its display, and that’s not slowing down anytime soon. It’s already been rumored, over and over again, that the phone will have an OLED display, and now IHS analyst, Kevin Wang, has come forward to state that the 2017 iPhone may not include “just” an OLED display, but a dual-curve OLED display.

As reported by PhoneArena, Wang posted on the Chinese social networking site, Weibo, to say that he expects Apple will launch an iPhone in 2017 with a dual-curve OLED display. That would mean the display would cover the left- and right-edge of the device.

If Wang is accurate, that would mean Apple’s 2017 iPhone could have a design that’s similar to the Galaxy S7 edge from Samsung, or Vivo’s XPlay 5.

“Kevin Wong’s [Wang’s] exact words are that after Vivo outed the Xplay 5 with its 5.4″ OLED screen that slopes to the sides like on the S7 edge, there will be more manufacturers using this technique, including Apple with next year’s iPhone.”
Apple’s focus on an OLED display has been apparent over the last several months, as rumors and analysts and reports have all cropped up detailing the idea that Apple would switch to the technology for its future iPhone. Back in April, a report surfaced that suggested Apple would launch an all-glass iPhone with an AMOLED screen. Almost immediately after that, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published his own note, suggesting Apple’s 2017 iPhone would be called the iPhone 8 and feature an OLED display.

Way back in March, OLED screens on iPhones were getting attention, too, including the idea that Apple could release a 5.8-inch iPhone with an OLED panel.

For what it’s worth, Wang does not name any source, be it a person or manufacturer, for the information, but it wouldn’t be completely out of the realm of possibility. As for what Apple might do with those curved displays, features wise, remains unknown at this point.

Would you like to see a future iPhone with a curved OLED display?

This is ridiculous. Not only does it look horrible (of course that's just my opinion), it's not apple esque at all. I'm interested to see what really happens since I recently switched to the Galaxy S7. Just got bored with my apple phones. :/

Not gonna happen. You won't be able to use the phone when it's on the table. MAYBE if only the front is curved but that wouldn't feel nice at all to scroll left to right or vice versa. Play games would suck too because the buttons are usually on the bottom of landscape mode and you'd need to tilt the phone forward a lot more like so it's flat with your thumbs. That would likely make the top part hard to see.

Keep the flat screen. Don't do none of that BS Sumsuck tried. If you want an edge display, then put in a separate thin display on the side(s). Edge to edge is fine. Smaller top and bottom bezel is fine. But definitely keep the hardware home button on the front. Anywhere else would be stupid and awkward to use.
