• Tragic Explosion Won't Delay iPad Production, Says Foxconn

As we reported late last week, a fatal explosion occurred in the early morning hours Friday at the Foxonnn plant in China - the infamous site where iDevices are mass produced and no shortage of controversies have emerged in recent years, most of which involve allegations of sub-par working conditions and a rash of employee suicides.

The explosion, which remains under investigation, isn't believed to be the result of foul play. Although mechanical failure is the likely culprit, authorities say more time is needed to assess the root cause of the blast. What we know for certain, however, is that three people were tragically killed and another fifteen were injured, some seriously.

On Monday, we've learned from Foxconn officials that production will not be negatively impacted by the explosion, contrary to initial concerns. According to the China Times newspaper publication, the fatal explosion at Foxconn Technology Groups Chengdu plant "did not affect the assembly line of iPad. Foxconn assured major suppliers at an online meeting yesterday that under the principle of orders placed and goods delivered as usual, the production of iPad 2 would not be delayed and related iPhone devices and new iPad products would still be in mass production in the third quarter."

As recently as Friday, Apple had declined to offer comment on the prospect of production delays. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant, however, did issue a statement in regard to the unfortunate accident at the plant. "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy at Foxconn's plant in Chengdu, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families," Apple formally commented in a statement released to the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital. "We are working closely with Foxconn to understand what caused this terrible event."

And does Apple plan on assisting these workers like they were so quick to do with the quake victims since their precious cargo will be unaffected....or are they planning on leaving them in the dust since apparently this event hasn't been a media frenzy like the quake?
