• Apple Partner Foxconn May Produce Amazon's iPad Rival Tablet

As MMi's Phillip Swanson reported yesterday, Amazon is rumored to be in the early stages of planning a tablet computer of its own. And although it doesn't yet appear that Apple should be nervous about another iPad competitor rolling off the assembly line, the Amazon venture could make for some awkward situations in the manufacturing realm.

According to a report this morning from DigiTimes, Foxconn Electronics is rumored to have landed orders for the 10.1-inch Amazon tablet computers. Foxconn, the longtime Apple partner and iPad maker, declined to comment on the speculation. But given that Foxconn is already producing Amazon's Kindle, there's very little reason to believe that Foxconn wouldn't similarly produce the Amazon tablet.

"In addition to the new tablet PC orders," DigiTimes reports, "Foxconn currently is also likely to produce 12 million units of Kindles for Amazon, and 38-40 million units of iPads as well as 80-85 million iPhones for Apple a year, the sources indicated."

At this time, there is no concrete release date in mind for this still unconfirmed Amazon product. But all signs point to a late 2011 release (just in time for the holiday shopping season) according to industry analysts and sources in the far east Asian supply and manufacturing chain.

I'm still waiting for an update to the Kindle. One with a 9-inch diagonal e-ink display and a dual-core processor (for around $150). Is that too much to ask?

      It is just posturing.
Foxconn wants to be sole manufacturer of iPad, throw this out there to get Apple to give them the contract.
