• Apple May Get Challenge From DirecTV in Possible Hulu Bid

On July 21st, MMi's Wiley John Wright reported on the swirling speculation that Apple may be interested in putting in a bid to acquire streaming video giant Hulu. At the time, Bloomberg was reporting that two people with knowledge of the deal admitted that Cupertino has eyes for Hulu.

“Apple, the world’s second-most valuable company, is in early talks that may lead to an offer for Hulu, said the people, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly,” the report read.

Well, unfortunately for Apple, the bid for Hulu may have to be heightened now given the increasingly large number of interested potential suitors for the digital streaming content service. On Friday, the AP confirmed that DirecTV Chief Executive Michael White is, indeed, interested in Hulu.

"I don't want to get into specific comments on an acquisition process," White says. "But I think suffice it to say we have consistently said that we want to make sure that we can make DirecTV available anytime and anywhere our customers want it."

"The Hulu software has some nice aspects to it but you also have to kind of form a judgment about its business model and what you think that business model can generate," he adds. "So, you know, we look at a lot of things here. And we'll see as we go through that process where we come out."

Beside Apple and DirecTV, other reportedly interested bidders for Hulu include Google and Yahoo.
