If you need a hand from Apple in getting your iDevice repaired and back up to speed, you may soon be able to have your gadget serviced without even having to leave the comfort of your home. According to reports surfacing Wednesday, Apple is supposedly hard at work on a forthcoming remote diagnostic tool that would connect an "Apple specialist" to your iDevice wherever you are.
It is believed that Apple staff have been briefed on this web-based remote diagnostic tool, which is thought to be completed and ready for introduction, possibly as soon as this fall when iOS 5 and the iPhone 5 are released. The system reportedly works by directing a user to a unique URL, which you would access on your device.
Should this report prove accurate, the arrival of a remote diagnostic tool will be every bit as helpful to the Apple community and it will be efficient and cost-effective for Apple. Having the ability to remotely assess, diagnose, and, hopefully, repair an iDevice will be an expedient approach to troubleshooting for Apple. That is, if an iPhone, for example, can't be quickly serviced by an Apple specialist from afar, a mail-in return for factory repair can be initiated faster than it likely would have been otherwise.
Additionally, any and all repair-related information gathered remotely from your device will be logged in Apple's system so that an Apple Store representative will be able to quickly address your situation should you have to take the device into a nearby Apple Store.
