Photos comparing the iPad 2 and iPad 3 casings have leaked, and they reveal an iPad 3 with a slightly different design.
MICGadget has photos of a purported iPad 3. The new iPad appears to have a more gradual taper compared to the iPad 2. The first shot misrepresents the thickness difference between the two devices. The iPad 3 has an increased thickness of around 1-1.5mm compared to the iPad 2.
Additionally, the iPad 3 camera lens appears to be larger as well. This suggests the new iPad will have an improved camera closer to that of the iPhone 4S, if not the same sensor and lens. The number of leaks of iPad 3 enclosures is uncharacteristic of the company, but with manufacturing ramping up on a reportedly massive scale, and Apple contracting the services of more and more manufacturers the ability for the company to prevent leaks seems to have weakened.
The iPhone rumors and leaks leading up to the 4S announcement showed a tapered iPhone design and were wrong, but these leaks are of a different quality. Either someone is producing elaborate hoaxes or Apple’s next generation iPad will feature minimal cosmetic changes with an improved display and improved internals.
