Standing in stark contrast to the recent wave of reports suggesting that the iPad 3 would become available on or shortly after the third generation tablet is unveiled Wednesday, today we're hearing from a trusted Apple source that the actual release will come late next week.
A consistently reliable tipster is being quoted around the tech news blogosphere today saying that he is knowledgeable about the iPad release date, which he says is next Friday, March 16th. Reuters this morning similarly quoted a trusted source revealing that the tablet, indeed, will deliver 4G LTE connectivity.
So perhaps the iPad 3 moniker is something bloggers dreamed up. Tomorrow, we might meet the iPadHD, after all. Regardless of its name, the launch couldn't be of more importance to Apple in setting the stage for the year ahead.
"The new iPad will be critical to Apple if it is to continue to dominate the global tablet market," Reuters reported today, quoting Frost & Sullivan's analyst, Phil Harpur. "A lot will depend how receptive the market is to the new features offered by iPad 3, two of which are believed to be quad-core processing and 4G-LTE capabilities," Harpur said. "While iPad 2 offered only minor incremental upgrades, this time the market will be expecting a lot more."
