• Apple Expands Discounts on Refurbished iPads

Apple is slashing prices yet again on its refurbished Wi-Fi iPads, taking the entry-level 16GB tablet down to $429 while the 32GB tumbles to $499. These "special" and for a "limited time" only prices apply strictly to refurbished iPads, meaning second-time-around models. They do, however, come with a new battery, new shell, and a full one-year warranty. The USB cable and power adapter are there, as is Apple's offer to provide free shipping.

Apple launched its refurbished iPad discount program earlier this fall, with the first wave of price-cuts bringing a $50 discount across all three Wi-Fi models. 3G iPads are also now available at refurbished prices ($50 off). The best deals are reserved for the Wi-Fi only models. The refurbished Wi-Fi 32GB iPad, for example, runs $499, a full $100 savings over a brand new iPad of the same make and model.

While some prospective buyers balk at products lumped into Apple's refurbished catalog, the iPads put back into circulation for re-sale have been "tested and certified" by Apple. Given how few complaints are logged by customers who have pulled the trigger on a refurbished iPad, it seems Apple has experienced decent success with the program - as evidenced by Apple's expansion of the program and accompanying discounts.
