• Report Offers Another Glimpse Inside Foxconn's Massive Facilities

Friday iFeng released a video giving outsiders a surprisingly intimate look into what goes on inside of Foxconn’s factories, albeit neutered for mainstream consumption.

The video is essentially a puff-piece with the Chinese reporter being led through the massive facilities by Foxconn CEO Terry Gou. The daunting size of the productions facilities becomes obvious in the helicopter ride over the 5.6 square-kilometer factory. Even more mind-blowing is the fact 115,000 employees are working inside of the facility. Also, for those doubting the need for Foxconn expansions should take note of the vast “wasteland” next to the plant. This barren plot just sits there waiting for Foxconn to expand.

Gou’s comments reak of the usual PR shell game as he takes the reporter from production line to production line boasting that the facility pushes out 10,000 iPhone 4S units each day. Goa even claims the facility is the best fabrication facility in the world, besting others in Japan, Germany and the U.S. Note, he didn’t comment on the living or working conditions of the employees.

The employee interviews in the video are favorable, but that is expected considering the tour/report was part of media day scheduled by Foxconn to help repair the company's image in terms of poor working conditions.

However, the question of which is worse, this fluff piece or This American Life’s piece in which Mike Daisey portrayed a fictional story of a Foxconn employees living and working conditions as true? One is misleading, bordering on propaganda, and the other, while Daisy may have initially created it with good intentions, falls victim to the same tropes.

Hey, why were those white iphones they were building also white down the side edges?? Where there is usually the silver strip? Think it was just a protective white sticker cover...? Cause it sure looked cool! The white was a perfect color match(like not off-white, or eggshell) but just a plain white... Matched the front screen perfectly n looked great! Who agrees??

I just noticed the same thing, the side edges are white, like a cover to prevent the antenna issue. iPhone 5 or 6? Lets see. You can see it better if you pause the video clip at 2:23 minutes.
