• Apple to Release iOS 4.3 Alongside iPad 2

Apple announced today at their iPad event that the iPad 2 would ship with a new version of iOS, iOS 4.3. The update builds on software additions found in previous versions of iOS 4.

Apple highlighted many new features in the upcoming software update. Safari performance will be improved enhanced using the "Nitro JavaScript engine." Apple's Scott Forstall add's that Safari's performance will be "significantly increased" using the new engine. Also included in iOS 4.3 is iTunes Home Sharing, allowing a user to stream their entire iTunes library to their iDevice via wi-fi. As expected, AirPlay will now be available for all applications, including video and audio played within Safari.

For iPad, iOS 4.3 will allow users to choose a preference for their switch, they can use it for mute or as a rotation lock. As expected, the GSM iPhone 4 will also get the personal hotspot feature, which first appeared on the CDMA iPhone 4 in iOS 4.2.6.

iOS 4.3 will also be available for the original iPad, iPhone 4 (GSM version), iPhone 3Gs and iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, and will ship with the iPad 2 on March 11.

Update: Apologies, we left the iPhone 3Gs off this list originally, it has been added to the list of compatible devices in this post.
