• JawBone Releases Updated Version of it's UP Wristband

Last year, the Bluetooth headset and speaker manufacturer, JawBone, released the UP wristband to much critical acclaim. The issues and complaints became overwhelming to the point where the wristband was pulled off the market a month later due to a defective design and a number of unhappy customers. Furthermore, the situation was so bad that JawBone offered a “no questions asked guarantee,” refund to all purchasers, for the full price paid on top of actually letting them keep the device as well.

The company recently released version 2.0 of the UP wristband, promising redesigned hardware and a better user experience. For those of you who are familiar with the Nike+ FuelBand, you’ll find many similarities between that and the updated iteration of the UP wristband. JawBone had the following to say about their product:

The Up, which was and still is a flexible bracelet, had two distinct issues that led to the hardware failures and thus the returns, Bogard explains now. The first was that small amounts of water were able to get into the band, causing moisture and contaminants to break some of the internal technology. The second was that the bendable nature of the band caused some of the tech components to break; people were bending and playing with the bracelet more than Jawbone had anticipated.

"In the last year we have learned a ton and we learned a lot from what became this beta in the real world. We got a lot of rich data from our users," Bogard explained. And with that the company built the next version of the Up, which is launching today in eight colors for $129.99.
For those of you who are interested in the JawBone UP, you can find it at the company’s official website, JawBone.com, or at Apple, AT&T and BestBuy stores. The app that goes along with the device is available for free in the App Store.

Are any of you going to be purchasing the JawBone UP 2.0?

I ordered mine yesterday when I saw it posted on Wired. Sucks no color options but when they do release color options my wife wants one.

Wish retail stores got them earlier than "Late November". Apple stores get them tomorrow/today but I really, really hate going to Mall of America for anything so I just ordered directly from them.

Tracks your activities. Such as how much walking you have done. How many calories burned. It tracks you sleep pattern. It also has an alarm to wake you at the right moment within your alarm you set so that you wake feeling rested and refreshed.

Take a look at their website listed and see what all it can do.

It's meant to be a fitness bracelet. Cer0 has explained it well above.

I like the 10 day battery life and only a 90 minute charge. They said 40 minute charge gets it to 80% battery in case you are in a hurry. But otherwise sounds like a great data collecting tool for your activites and only gets taken off for charge and syncing data. (Because it syncs via headphone jack connection)

I am super excited to get this. I was last year but only really looked into it just as it was being recalled.

My doctor will enjoy the data if I show her also because she wants me to be more active and also she would be thrilled to see my sleep pattern since I am on sleeping meds.

I suggest checking out their website for more details. Such as what it tracks when you sleep.

This isnt just an app this is hardware. It is a bracelet that you wear. The app is used to sync to to show you your stats and other various info.

Another feature: activity vibrate alert. If you have not moved or been very active for a certain amount of time it vibrates to let you know you have been inactvie and to move around a little bit. Like for those of us that work desk jobs for 8+ hours a day it basically reminds you to get up and just take a walk to break room or around the office or anything as long as you get up.

Seriously take a look at their site for information about it: https://jawbone.com/up

The idle alarm is off by default and you can set it to however long in between you want to be warned of idle and set a time frame. So I set my work ours and if I was idle for more than 30 minutes.

The power nap feature worked great at waking me and felt refreshed.

Can you set the idle time to 6 months?
