Although Twitter may have given up on its official Mac client (yes, the one that hasn’t been updated in well over 18 months), third party developers apparently have not. An iOS developer from Turkey named Deniz Mert Edincik, has recently decided to patch the application to provide support for Apple’s new Retina MacBook Pros.
Users who have waited for the fix since the release of the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro (which made its debut back in June) were stuck waiting as Twitter seemed to have ceased development of its OS X app. The company hasn’t even confirmed or shown interest in the client since June of 2011, which left many just hanging. This turned out to be a positive thing though in a way as it left Edincik fed up of waiting, which made him patch the Twitter client himself and then release the update for the public to enjoy.
Since the patch was created by a third party iOS developer, you won’t find the update in the Mac App Store. You can click on the source link to download it from MediaFire though. Although some of the client’s elements still aren’t Retina-ready (such as the icons in the navigation pane), all of the text is and it actually looks visually appealing.
If you try the patch out, let us know what you think!
