Last week MMi reported that T-Mobile is finished existing in the shadow of the nation's top three wireless carriers. In 2013, T-Mobile will join the ranks of Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint by formally carrying the iPhone across its network - a network that is actively being upgraded ahead of this major development.
On Thursday, T-Mobile launched its upgraded HSPA+ systems in five key regions across the U.S. The launch regions this morning included Chicago, Illinois, Reno, Nevada, Fresno and Sacramento, California, and the greater Los Angeles community (but not actually downtown LA).
T-Mobile says these upgrades will now provide voice and data enhancements, improved signal strength and in-building coverage for customers in the aforementioned regions.
"T-Mobile has now enhanced the network in 23 metro areas," says Neville Ray, Chief Technology Officer for T-Mobile USA, "and we have already reached 100 million people with this improved network experience." Ray says that mobile network advancements are also ongoing everywhere from Boston and the New York metro area, to Philadelphia and San Diego.
