iOS devices are known for their great music experience, but that’s not exactly true on the lock screen. iOS developer Dany Lisiansky has been hard at work on a new jailbreak tweak dubbed Tempus that makes the lock screen’s music controls much more intuitive and usable.
To begin, you won’t have to double-press the home button on the lock screen anymore to get to your iPod controls. On a device with a great touch screen, why would anyone want to use buttons? Tempus allows you to simply swipe left and right on the time bar from the lock screen to reveal iPod controls and even a bonus brightness slider, as shown below.

Additionally, users will be able to swipe down from the time bar on the lock screen to open a song picker. This song picker can be used to pick individual songs right from the lock screen instead of relying on shuffle, or the next/back buttons to navigate through your music. It has nearly the same layout as the actual Music application, so you will feel like you have more control over your songs without ever needing to unlock your iOS device. The song picker is shown below:

You will also be able to swipe on the time bar while in the song-picker view so you have maximum control over your music while you navigate:

When you tap on the Player button from the song-picker view, you will get to see an interface that looks very familiar to the Music application. You get to see your album artwork, artist, album, and song name, with all the music controls you will need, such as pause/play, forward/back, and a music scrubber. You'll also be able to swipe down on the album artwork to reveal the song's lyrics (if you have them saved). You can exit this interface by pressing the home button twice:

Tempus adds some options to configure from the Settings application. You’ll be able to enable and disable the tweak on demand. Additionally, if you prefer using the home button to using swipe gestures, you can configure the home button to open Tempus instead of the iPod controls. You can make the home button open both the Tempus interface and the music controls, or one or the other:

The developer has included a demo video showing that the tweak also works on an iPad:
Tempus is expected to hit the Cydia store some time next week for $1.49. Keep your eyes peeled!
