Earlier this week the status of the Kickstarter-funded POP charging station was in flux, but the thought-to-be doomed accessory has new life.
The POP charger was in fact icanceled by it’s creator Jamie Siminoff after Apple refused to approve his device. The multi-device charger raised $130,170 on Kickstarter, and Siminoff's decision to cancel the project meant issuing refunds to those who donated to make the device a reality. However, the firestorm of media coverage apparently helped convince Apple to do a complete 180 against their decision.
The hang-up was Apple’s accessory policy that forbid any device from having both a Lightning connector and a 30-pin connector on the same device. Apple changed the policy after the extensive media coverage, thereby legitimizing Siminoff’s creation. After initially saying the project was still off despite Apple's concessions, Siminoff has decided to continue with the production of the POP charger.
