Hey all!
So, you've most likely noticed the writers aren't on the front page anymore, as of 12/31. We've sadly had to make the decision to pull paid writers, and will be reimagining the front page starting this week. Cody and I have loved having Anthony, Shay, and Michael helping us share the news for many years, and will miss them. Thanks for all your support of our amazing writers!

The Pangu team has released a Windows-only jailbreak for iOS 8.1 (but with a caveat which we'll get to in a second). It took just 35 days from the release of iOS 8 to be jailbroken - a huge improvement from the nearly 5 months iOS 7 took to jailbreak.

Surenix (aka Thientam Bach) just announced his new tweak Auki, during a presentation at JailbreakCon. He bills it as all of the above - quite a bit. Benno Krauss was the developer who worked with him to create it.
Auki is essentially a quick reply feature for messaging, as well as an easy way to silence individual conversations or people in messages.

The 2014 Jailbreak Con (#WWJC was trending earlier!) is full swing underway, and it's a really great experience!

Early Christmas Eve, saurik released version 1.1.9 of Cydia, which gets Cydia fully working on iOS 2-7. Although under the hood it's seen changes to run smoothly on iOS 7, the most obvious update is Cydia's visual change to iOS 7's style.

tl;dr - evasi0n7 successfully jailbreaks iOS 7 devices (untethered), installs a Chinese app store for Chinese users which has some piracy issues, evad3rs were paid to bundle that app (TaiG), two separate teams were working on a jailbreak, and Mobile Substrate and jailbreak tweaks should be updated and working within a week or two, but devs are frustrated.
Early on the Sunday before Christmas, an iOS 7 jailbreak was released, carrying the moniker evasi0n7.
