it seems their is a special plist file that lists the locations for the spotlight to search....cant exactly remeber which 1 but im sure it might also have enabling\disabling of the feature

I think the plist file is called "searchd" under system/library/launching deamons...i was disabling a few per the speedup experiment on xsellize and disabled it. It still shows up but wont return any results when typing.

I'd love for someone to find a way of getting rid of Spotlight. So annoying.

A member on here had a really good idea: they suggested if maybe we could slide to the left and it goes to your SMS.

That would be better than anything really (for me at least).

i am pretty sure that you cant disable spotlight.

however if you downgrade itunes to itunes 7 you can then downgrade your itouch/iphone to 2.2.1 because the f/w does not include spotlight.

    hope this helps

iProtect from cydia allows you to disable searching, but doesn't completely get rid of it. It would be really nice to get rid of it since i use a one page theme being able to slide ruins it, ahaha.

Yea same here. I'm wondering if anyone is ever going to find a way to get rid of the lockscreen too.

That's starting to be a nuisance to me too.

Bleh, let's hope someone is on this.

Why would you want to remove the lockscreen? The whole point is that when your phones in your pocket you dont start calling people or launching apps which will decrease battery life.

So they can install some ridiculous theme that fools them into thinking they have multitasking.

    Just get a 3GS instead.

Did the 3gs gain native multitasking? I thought all iPhone/iPod users were in the same boat on that point....

That's what putting the phone in sleep mode is for. Some people don't put their phone in their pocket, some people have iPhone clip cases to where accidentally launching/calling people would even happen.

I don't see why people keep saying that anyways. I've had my phone in my pocket numerous times and I've never accidentally called anyone, unlocked the phone, etc. Wtf do you guys have in your pocket that will make the phone push the home/power button, slide to unlock the phone, push the phone app and press a contact to start calling? Seriously?

If you don't find any purpose in it, why even post in the thread? Let anyone who's interested in helping, or interested in the idea of it, post.

I'd be interested in this as well. I'm contemplating the idea of having my springboard basically be one page, and that's a LockInfo page. I'd have 5 icons on bottom for 4 most used/common apps, and a folder containing my categories of apps. I think that'd be awesome.

I'm fine with spotlight still existing, I'd just simply like the swipe function to get to it to be disabled or something, and the "page indicators" disabled as well.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

Now if only we could rid ourselves of the stupid Spotlight page (I enjoy the service within apps, though).
