hi, i backed up my sms/texts [\private\var\mobile\Library\SMS] from my iphone 3g. then i went out and got the iphone 4. it took a month for the jailbreakme.com to come out, so i couldn’t load my backup from my 3g to iphone 4 on release day. question: how do i MERGE my iphone 3g sms backup with my iphone 4 sms backup?

i tried this site (https://smsmerge.homedns.org/) even though it said it wouldn’t work with frimwares 3.0 and up without any results (no surprise, i had to try)

Download a sqlite database explorer/manager. I can't think of the name of the one I used right now. That should allow you to open the sms.db files, and depending on which manager you find, possibly let you merge them.

yeah i downloaded sqlite manager plugin for firefox and got this error when trying to add a new record in the "message" table:

SQLiteManager: Create statement failed (executeWithParams): INSERT INTO "main"."message" ("ROWID") VALUES (4325345) [ no such function: read ]
    Exception Name: NS_ERROR_FAILURE
Exception Message: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [mozIStorageConnection.createStatement] and sqlitemanager from sqlabs.

then i used sqlitemanager from sqlabs and got a similar error when trying to add a new record:

    no such function: read
    error code: 1

i think the errors are causes by the triggers that involve deleting and inserting. has anybody tried merging two sms.db in this forum with success?

"they put the triggers on the tables which use internal functions of sms framework.
So if you try changing values by hand, outside of SMS app, those functions are not defined and they will fail."

It's a little late, but the script on https://smsmerge.homedns.org is now updated for iOS3.x and 4.x sms.db files.

    Please try again.

looking to do the same thing,, this isnt working for me. i was looking at the script and saw a time out set.. my one file is 8.6 MB the other is 2.4MB.. any chance the timeout is stopping this from working?

    Same issue here.

    Gateway Time-out

The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.
