I bought an unlocked IPhone 1.0.2 with modem firmware 04.01.13_G, running on Vodafone Egypt. I want to upgrade to the latest possible firmware available. The upgrade guide on says to make sure that the modem firm ware is 03.14.08_G where mine is 04.01.13_G.

    I have 3 questions:

    - Is it risky and how to do the upgrade?
    - Is the modem firmware a problem, and can I upgrade it before I upgrade the main firmware?
    - I am not sure about the difference between unlocking and jailbreaking?

(sorry if I've asked a repeated question, but I looked for an answer all over the forum couldn't find one)

with modem firmware 04.01.13_G. you should be running 1.1.1. im guessing someone restore back to 1.0.2. if i was you i would turn off autolock and then use the baseband downgrade in installer, after that put phone in DFU mode(restore mode) and restore to 1.1.1. that will give you a clean 1.1.1. after that you can do the and anysim1.1 to unlock it. remember, guides are ur friend
the whole unlocking and jailbreaking can be found here

    to answer ur questions

    1. its not really risky to upgrade if u read the guides and it tells you how to put phone in DFU mode

    2. You should be running the modem firmware that goes along with ur phone(main) firmware. It will upgrade when you upgrade ur phone firmware.

    3. jailbreaking is allowing to add/edit files/programs. unlocking allows for use of sim cards other then AT&T.
