I was one of the people who didn't read about 3.0 before upgrading. I wasn't aware you need a Dev account to activate the iPhone.

Here is what I did to downgrade back to 2.2.1 A lot of people say you can't but you can it's just a pain. This isn't a guide this is just a video recording of me messing around trying to get my iPhone back to 2.2.1 and finally with a lot of trying to it fixed.

I restored my iPhone using the custom ISPW

You can restore it to 2.2.1 but you will never downgrade your baseband. It took me a few shots to get it to activate properly and get service back but it does work and is possible.

    Cool video tho.

sorry, wrong question. when you downgrade back to 2.2.1, are you able to use the phone capabilities being that the baseband has been updated? I've heard of people getting 2.2.1 back on their phones no problem, but I can't find a definitive answer as to weather they are actually able to make/receive calls?

Unfortunately, until a method to downgrade the new baseband in 3.0 is discovered, you won't be able to make or recieve calls.

Try turning your 3G off, worked for me.
Which i'm not in 3G area anyway.
I've heard of several people having to do this.
