Is anyone else as pissed off as I am that they are planning on charging $30 for the slingplayer app? I already paid them for the hardware. Why the **** do I have to pay another $30 for the software? What a joke.
Orb charges for theirs but they don't sell hardware (streams from PC tuners). That said, Monsoon HAVA's app will reportedly be free.

Oh god... All that stupid legal stuff. Everyone already has a kernel on their iPhone... We would just be sharing a slightly modified version of it.

Someone will eventually upload it somewhere. I'm definitely not gonna rejailbreak just because one file is change (unless other things will be changed too).

All Jailbreaking really does is apply a patch that slightly modifies your kernel (oversimplified, but replacing an encrypted kernel on a running system is not going to simple at any rate)

Having a modified kernel (or even unmodified) on a public website is enough to set apple off, as the kernel is APPLE'S intellectual property and no one is prepared to open themselves up to possible legal repercussions just to help the whiners, beggars, and oh yeah, a few patient people as well.

I would not mind seeing a tutorial on patching your own kernel, but I can understand the people who know how not wanting responsibility for showing even more advanced users how, as the incapable and incompetent would screw it up, and throw fecal matter at those who refuse to help them fix their new iBricks.
gomi no sensei means "master of junk" roughly translated from japanese, ripped off from "The Winter Market" by William Gibson

People have made many modified kernels for OS X 10.5, and Apple doesn't seem to care. A lot of people use these modified kernels on the Macs (and PCs).

Oh well. I'll wait and see. It might be time for a restore anyway (or maybe I don't have to do a restore?).

No restore would be necessary. My guess it will just be a re-jaibreak process like when those who corrupted their kernel on beta 3 with beta 2's kernel only had to run quickpwn again to fix it.

I actually like to restore my device every now and then. As I re-install stuff I've found new apps that I didn't realize they were there. It also gets rid of all the junk that I've installed and just forgot about. I probably restore 1 or 2 times a month.

I like restoring too, but not that often... Maybe once every few months.

I just can't stand putting all my music back on my iPhone. Takes way too long.

@BeSweet: Modded kernels for OS X/OSx86 are very different from the iPhone OS kernel. Modded OS X kernels are compiled from the original Darwin sources that Apple releases for free to all; iPhone OS' kernel is neither released freely nor licensed for release and redistribution. Of course, that doesn't stop people, but jailbreakers/developers are doing anything they can to fend off Apple's stupid argument that jailbreaking is illegal. If we distributed copyrighted Apple material for the jailbreak (such as including modified IPSW content in QuickPwn), their argument would be entirely true and jailbreakers could likely get in legal trouble.

That said, restoring sucks. It always happens when I have to go from a study hall to a real class... :-/

Random question. Does anybody know if mobilesubstrate keeps a log of crashes? Is there anyway I can find out what plugin is causing it to go into safemode and why without having to uninstall each one individually? Thanks.
