Okay, I bought a iPhone 3g from someone but I can't seem to even jailbreak it.
    The baseband is : 05.12.01
    Bootloader is: 6.4
    Its running on 3.1.2

I used f0recast and apparently its not unlockable nor has it been tethered. So, question is..Can I still jailbreak and unlock this phone? I've tried restoring it on iTunes but it gives me an error that says 'error 1015'

What am I doing wrong? I have quite a few iPhones, but this is the first to give me a problem with jailbreaking and unlocking. I also know that with the 05.12.01 you can downgrade once you get cydia. Obviously I have to jailbreak first. So help? Please?

    Couple points of clarification:

    * there are NO tethered jailbreaks on a 3G non-S iphone; that only applies to 3G "S" with the newer boot-ROM (2009 week 40 and newer).

    * you can't downgrade the 05.12.01 baseband on the 3G iPhone unless it's one of the very few sold during the initial 3G launch that has the 05.08 bootloader. These phones will have xx827xxxxxx, xx828xxxxxx or xx829xxxxxxx serial numbers (signifying phones produced in the 27th, 28th and 29th week of 2008 before they changed the bootloader to 05.09). If you have 05.08 bootloader, that will allow you to downgrade the baseband back to 04.26.08 and you can unlock that with ultrasn0w. Otherwise, you're stuck at 05.12.01 and will not be able to unlock it.

    * what kind of restore are you trying to do that gives you the 1015 error? Your phone has 3.1.2 firmware but 05.12.01 baseband, which is the baseband from 3.1.3. This means that it was previously updated to 3.1.3 and then rolled back to 3.1.2 but the baseband stayed at 05.12.01. What kind of restore are you trying to do now?

Since yours is a 3G, you should be able to jailbreak even on 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4.

I was trying to restore back to 3.0 because I need it for tmobile. I know its possible to downgrade from 3.1.2 to 3.0 because i've done it before.

You can downgrade the firmware, yes, but you can never downgrade the baseband and the baseband is what the unlocking tool modifies.

So you can jailbreak your phone by restoring to 3.1.3 and then running redsn0w, but you won't be able to unlock it for use with an unofficial carrier until someone releases an unlock for the new baseband, which could take quite some time.

not if it has the 3.1.3 firmware...there is no jailbreak available at this time for that firmware on a new 3gs

Read about downgrading to 3.1.2 to jailbreak a new 3gs with factory 3.1.3 but that would not be possible because you need a 3.1.2 shsh file from the 3gs phone right? I have a 3g running jailbroken 3.1.2 but i cannot use the shsh from the 3g phone and use it on the new 3gs?

there is no shsh for a 3G. even if there was, the answer would be no. the shsh files are individual 3[G]S & ipt3 specific.

Unfortunately, you can't. It doesn't look that new though, isn't that a refurb? Don't know if they're sold as new, just thought they weren't.

You can jailbreak it with Spirit but there's no unlock for it at the moment.

No, you shouldn't use any solution that requires payment. They're all scams. In all cases, either they selling something that's available for free or they send you a mail claiming that the particular unlock for your device isn't quite available yet but that they're working on it. They then release 'their' unlock when an unlock has been released on the web for free.

As you can't activate your phone, you'll need to hang tight for now.
