Nope, I tried DFU too. Only way I got it to work, was updating not restoring. Not sure if you have to be on 3.1.3 or not. Just know to update, not restore.
You had to update using Virtual Machine correct?

For the people who tried the VMWare method, how long does it take to get past the Apple loading screen. It seems that I've been looking at it forever...

I did the -v thing on boot and noticed that the boot keeps crashing, stating something like "crash using uid." It just keeps looping from there. More problems for updating to 4.0 with Windows =\

Try updating itunes and rebooting the vm. ONLY UPDATE ITUNES. or else you probably wont come back at all.

Updated iTunes and connected the Apple Mobile Device with vmware. vmware shows that it is connected, but iTunes does not see the device. I thought that maybe taking the snapshot that someone else recommended might help, but no luck.

Guess I'm back to waiting for a SB JB.

do you see the iphone in system profiler? (click the apple at upper left hand side, go to "about this mac", then click "more info" , click USB on the tree on the left and see if it's listed at all.

Mine was taking forever, until I upgraded my itunes in the snow leopard image. After itunes was updated then it only took 3-4 minutes...

Win+Update. Hm.. I was doing Restore, probably the reason why my iPhone wouldnt reconnect to VMWare and kept giving me Error Code 9 (and sometimes 4) who knows. Trying again now.
