when I started to change the host file as described in the tutorial, the illustration shows a line that says 127.0.0.1 local host, then add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com. there is no line at the end of my file with 127 etc local host. it ends with that number and a name. There is no mention of adding this line it just says to add the gs apple line.. do I need to add both lines or just the apple line??

Put this on a blank line after said local thing

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Exactly like that on the same line.

I think I may have found the problem but I don't know how to solve it. my wife uses this computer when working from home and there are several programs that her company insist on, one of them is called "spybot". All the listings that are in my "host" file are inbetween lines that say "search and destroy". no matter what I do I can't change that file, however I can add the line under "the search and destroy line and save it to the "host.txt" file. will that do what I need it to do? I cannot just add it to the "host" as described in directions.

Yes just add it in the next line after all the spybot entries
