    I get iTunes error 1600 & 1604 when try to install custom FW made with PwnageTool.

    I have Dev. account, using OSX 10.6.3 & iTunes Beta 9.2

    Wondering how to get around iTunes error on Mac??????

    Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4 GM with PwnageTool
    STEP 1 – Required Stuff

    * Download PwnageTool 3.1.5
    * Download PwnageTool Bundle for iPhone 3Gs iOS 4 GM [Mirror 1]
    * Download RedSn0w 0.9.5b4
    * Download iOS 4 GM

    STEP 2 – Add Custom Bundles to PwnageTool

    1. Extract the downloaded iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_bundle.zip.
    2. Right Click on the PwnageTool.app and click on Show Package Contents.
    3. Then navigate to the following directory: Contents>Resources>FirmwareBundles and copy the extracted iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_bundle.bundle into FirmwareBundles directory.

    STEP 3 – Add New Cydia to PwnageTool

    1. Right click on the downloaded RedSn0w jailbreak and go to Show Package Contents.
    2. Go to: Contents>MacOS and copy the Cydia.tar.gz from that folder to your desktop and Extract it.

    Now copy the extracted Cydia folder to PwnageTool.app. To do that:

    1. Right click on Pwnagetool.app and ‘Show Package Contents’.
    2. Go to : Contents > Resources > CustomPackages and then Right click on ‘CydiaInstaller.bundle’ and ‘Show Package Contents’
    3. Go to: Files folder and overwrite all the files with the ones you just extracted from redsn0w. That’s it.

    STEP 4 – Create Custom iOS 4 Firmware

    Now that you have modified the PwnageTool.app, it’s time to create custom iOS 4 firmware with pwnageTool for iPhone 3GS using downloaded iOS 4 GM. If you don’t know how to, follow the guide linked below to create Custom firmware with pwnageTool,

    How to: Create Custom Firmware with PwnageTool
    STEP 5. Restore Custom Firmware

    Once you’ve created the custom firmware (CFW), Put your iPhone 3Gs into Recovery/Restore Mode and restore your device via iTunes with CFW. That’s it.

    Have fun with iPhone 3G iOS 4 jailbroken!

    Think its because you have the new Bootrom. Same thing happens with me. You cannot restore custom firmware with that bootrom

    So is there no workaround yet?

    There is no way you can jailbreak the 3GS with the new bootrom. Nobody has created a jailbreak yet and there has been rumors that we have quite a wait for one. If you read the description you posted, it clearly says 3G and not 3GS. Sorry to say, but you won't be able to jailbreak your 3GS.

    Actually it says 3Gs in multiple locations.

    It does work with the 3Gs, just not with the newer bootrom.

    Edit: Zach beat me to it.

    Aside from the last line, the entire article says 3Gs. 3G users can upgrade using redsnow; this method is specifically for 3G[s]. However, this method is for 3G[s] with old bootrom, as I used a similar set of instructions and am enjoying a jailbroken 3G[s] (actually, there isn't much you can do with it since most cydia apps don't work yet). There is no workaround yet but I would anticipate a full solution will be here this month, based on the dev-team's tweets.

    What firmware are you on? You can't go from a beta to GM Custom. You have to put it in DFU mode, downgrade to 3.1.2(not 3), use iRecovery to get out of the boot loop, jailbreak it at 3.1.2 using redsn0w(which edits iBoot), then put it in recovery mode and restore to 4.0GM custom.

    i found yesterday that trying to restore to a 4.0GM custom pwnage tool custom firmware will always give a 1600 error message if you are trying to restore from DFU mode. put the phone into restore mode and I was successful (early bootrom 3GS).

    what do you need to do to downgrade to 3.1.2? Do you need a certain version of itunes or can you do it on 9.1?

    OK....I've been at this all night last night and all day today. Maybe I've missed a step somewhere after reading the same thing with a few minor changes everwhere.... Why can't someone up the Custom FW? Is it against the rules or something? Because I think if someone just uploaded the Custom firmware for 3Gs or even just uploaded the fixed Pwnage Tool or whatever, that would help everyone out.
