My iPhone 4 is stuck at the apple logo. I can put the phone into recovery mode and restore to 4.2 but I'm hoping there is a solution.

I do have my SHSH blobs stored on cydia but using TinyUmbrella I am not able to download them from Cydia. Timyumbrella says:

08/21/2010 19:02:45.780 You are using the current version of TinyUmbrella.
    08/21/2010 19:02:45.951 Recovery Device Detected - iDevice:8888888888 <--edited :P
    08/21/2010 19:02:57.539 Processing SHSH Request...
08/21/2010 19:02:57.656 Sorry - You must connect iPhone4 to obtain SHSH...

I guess you can't be in recovery mode to check your SHSH is on file? I am 100% sure that when I loaded Cydia it said "this device has SHSH blobs stored for 4.1" even though I was running 4.0

    What should I do?

P.S I tried restoring to 4.0 with the modified hosts file but itunes gives errors

EDIT: I took the chance and restored to 4.2, then I was able to download my SHSH from cydia using Umbrella. I am now in the process of restoring to 4.0.1. Too bad you can't verify your SHSH in restore mode, can be scary not knowing...

Good luck, keep me updated, there seems to be a lot of people on iPhone 4 getting stuck on Apple logo, how did this happen?

Believe it or not, Rock was the culprit. I had removed it manually (not through cydia) it error'd out, so I proceeded to remove from cydia which looks like it completed, reboot and then stuck!

wow, that is exactly what happen to me.

Rock was doing a reboot, and i got stuck at the apple logo.
I tried to do the restore to 4.0.1, but the process wouldn't work(using SHSH).
so i did a apple restore to 4.0.2. It is now functional, but not jailbroken.

I am now trying to figure out how down convert 4.0.2 to 4.0.1(i have the SHSH saved on cydia and on my computer). I tried a couple of times so far, but it doesn't seem to be working.

if anyone has any pointers or tips, i would be grateful

    thanks guys,

i tried all that on those links on a mac and pc, but doesnt go through.
(i changed the host file, import the shsh file, then start the TSS server)

I always get stuck when restoring in itunes, to the 4.0.1. Its starts extracting the file then it tries to connect to the apple server to verify the install, but it fails and says this:

"the iphone "iphone" cannot be restored at this time because the Iphone software update server update could not be contacted or it temporarily unavailable"

I am connected to the internet, port 80 is open.
when i ping gs.apple.com it show the Cydia server ip address i entered into the host file.

Any one know what is wrong, or what could cause this?

    thanks

do you have wifisync (or whatever it's called) installed, seems like I read that can cause problems when trying to restore

when you start a TSS server in tinyumbrella it should be redirecting to your computer not thecydia server ( I thought it edited the host file automatically), don't know if that could be causing the problem or not

i see what you are saying j3st3r3, and i just tried both ways.

So if i am using the cydia server, i just need to enter this into the host file: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

then i can restore through itunes, without using tinyumbrella.

if i want to restore with the SHSH saved to my computer, i dont need to edit the host file because tinyumbrella adds this 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

i tried both different ways, but i still get the same error:
"the iphone "iphone" cannot be restored at this time because the Iphone software update server update could not be contacted or it temporarily unavailable"

do you think it could be something with my router? I opened up port 80, but is there somethign else that needs to be done?

    thanks again

Take it as a lesson but a rule of thumb is to not uninstall any stores once you have them installed. If you must, do it through a different store not via CyDelete or such.

I love Rock. When I'm looking for great apps to write about on my site It really helps to have ratings and reviews, unlike Cydia. While I do wish Rock was as stable as Cydia I just can't stand its slowness and lack of features.

ill admit, korin, graphically its nice, even better than cydia, but ill take a stable cydia over an unstable Rockapp any-day!

Yes, wifi sync can be a problem too, if i have wifi synced installed on my computer, i can never do the restore, it just hangs on restoring iphone firmware. But once i uninstalled it, everything goes smoothly.
Rocks is fine for me, no problem.
