Hey guys, im in need of some help here please.
Ive spent the last 6 hours trying to fix the cydia mess that was created on my IP4 last night. Ive managed to get rid of all the errors comming up and it all seems to work but its dog slow.
Im wanting to reinstall 4.0.1 and jailbreakme again and start from scratch.
do i, download the 4.0.1 restore ipsw, change the host to sauriks server, go into dfu mode, shift and restore and select my restore file ?
i do have my shsh saved but do i still need to direct to saurik as im not downgrading im just refreshing ?
i keep getting the 3194 error

Yes, that's exactly how you do it, and yes you have to edit your host file to saurik's server. Apple is no longer signing 4.0.1 so that's the only way you'll get the restore to go through.

Make sure your host file is set correctly and that saurik's ip address is the only line that has any mention of gs.apple.com. Also if you have wifisync installed on your computer uninstall it.

That should be right. Open a comand prompt and try to ping gs.apple.com. If the response comes back from 74.208.105.171 then you know it's set right and working. The next step would be restarting the computer and trying the restore again.

Looks like the same issue I had. Also add the following line to your hosts file:

    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com.akadns.net

I do not know where you are getting 74.208.105.171 from. I would remove that completely. It worked for me with 74.208.10.249

I got this from: Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)

74.208.10.249 is saurik's server. Sorry, didn't catch that when you posted your host file earlier.

    Yes, take out the 74.208.105.171

It's usually best to set up as a new phone rather than from backup. Glad it's working for you
