    All,
    My Setup
    iP 4.0
    sftwr ver: 4.0(8A293)
    Firm:01.59
    Carrier: At&t
    Shsh's: Yes, On file (cydia)
Jailbroken: Blackra1n? man it was so long ago I cant really recall.
    unlocked:Ultrasnow
    PC/OS: Mac OS X

Issues: from time to time my phone resprings and all the icons and ringtones go back to default locations and settings. All the software is still intact. its just annoying. perhaps the update/upgrade will fix this.

Goals: get to the latest possible/doable version while maintaining my unlock. I travel out side the country. So I dont want to lose that feature.
I read the PDF. But I'm assuming its premised on a stock setup. So in my case already JB'n & unlocked

    Thanks all for your input!

Use pwnage tool to make a custom 4.3.3 firmware and option restore to that in iTunes. That will preserve your baseband for you so that ultrasnow can still unlock your iPhone.

It couldnt have been blackra1n bc that was for 3.1.2

To answer your question, it's an iPhone 4 yes? If you have SHSHs for 4.2.1 would you want to use that or update all the way to 4.3.3? All jb are now untethered and compatible to work with ultrasn0w unlock.

You can use Sn0wbreeze (even better pwnagetool if you have a Mac) to create a custom fw to restore to. This will jb and preserve your baseband in one step. Just create the firmware for whatever you have your SHSHs for, or to 4.3.3 if that's what you'd like, and shift+restore to it.

You'll need redsn0w to put your device in pwned dfu mode before restoring to a custom fw. If you're using your blobs, you'll want to run tinyumbrella's TSS server while restoring. If you are going to 4.3.3, you'll want to uncheck the box to point to Cydia on exit in TU under advance options. Close TU after that and open iTunes to restore after putting into pwned dfu mode.

If you are going to 4.3.3 and you don't do the TU uncheck box step, you'll error out. If you are going to 4.2.1, don't do that step just start the TSS server and leave it running while you restore.

If you have any other questions let me know.

I just inherited an unmodded (no JB or unlock) 3G. It is on Ver 4.1 with a firmware of 5.14.02. I would really like to JB and unlock so my daughter could use it. From my casual reading of this forum, it appears that 4.1 is not unlockable? If so, anything that I can do?

    Thanks

Installing the iPad baseband is the only way to unlock that. You will lose GPS doing it and there is no going back from it though.

Run F0recast from ih8sn0w on your phone. Check the bootloader. If it says 5.8 you can downgrade the baseband. If it says anything else then your only option is what Simon said.

So, if I go with the iPad BB I will not be able to use the maps, etc? Is that what is meant by losing gps?

    bootloader 5.9....sigh

Google maps will still work since that uses cell tower and wifi triangulation. Any app that uses true GPS like Tom Tom will not work though.

redsnow 0.9.6rc8 is what you will need to do it (the newest redsnow 0.9.6rc18 will work too though).

Ok, need some help here. I updated the iPhone to 4.2.1 via iTunes. I then downloaded redsn0w for windows ver 0.9.6rc8. Then I had some trouble finding a good link for 4.2.1 but finally found one. Extracted everything into the same folder and then went back into iTunes and shift/restored. Problem is I can not find the ipsw file! I downloaded and extracted twice, but the file does not seem to be there. Anyone have any suggestions or a link to the correct ipsw file?
