I've been trying to upgrade to iOS 5, have my UDID registered and everything, and I keep getting an unknown error 1 when I try to restore using iOS 5. I have beta 10.5 of iTunes. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have the wrong build or ipsw file for your device

I thought so, too, so I downloaded it again. No dice. It is making me CRAZY. I've gone through the process no less than 5 times, and it happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Wah.

    Tried doing it in dfu?
What device are you doing it on and what build do you have?

Can you tell me how to do it in DFU? Because no, I haven't tried that. I have the AT&T GSM iPhone 4. And sorry to be a dope, but what do you mean by build? Duh.

Thanks for any and all help you can provide, Cowboy. I am driving myself nuts here.

When in the process does the error ocurr? Also, are you confident you registed the correct UDID?- no typos or misread a number?

Yes, absolutely certain. It happens when it says verifying with Apple.

Hmmm... Do you have a developer account with apple? Maybe you can fish through their forums or check the release notes. If not, I'll have a go at it in a bit and report back

I don't, no. My UDID is registered with someone else's account. Any help you could provide would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated. Thanks!

After some searching I've found the method of restore suggested by Apple is to use XCode. A beta XCode 4.2 is out. I'm not at a computer so i can't download it and send it to you. Maybe try googling for it and use that to restore?

Also, you using shift/option+RESTORE to choose your ispw, right?? Seems like some people are trying to click Udate and it doesn't work.

Thanks! I'll see what I can find. Really appreciate it.

Bah. I can't find the file from a reliable source. If someone can hook me up, I'd very much appreciate it.

Edited to add: Do you think it could be because i have a G5 with a Power PC 970 processor? This work computer is ANCIENT. Maybe I should try it with my MacBook Air?

Is your host file blocking Apples servers? Was an issue I had while trying out iOS 5 on my iPad. Was giving me errors until I went into my host file and fixed it, and then it worked fine.

Do you have the latest iTunes on it? I'm pretty sure you don't. Try with your MBA.

Yeah are you running iTunes 10.5 beta?

Yes, I was running the iTunes 10.5 beta.

It must have had something to do with my ancient Mac at work. Worked perfectly on my second gen MBA. Thanks for your help, everyone!
