Is there a way to do an untethered jailbreak on 4.3.5? Also, is there a way to carrier unlock it? I'm using an iPhone 3GS on firmware 4.1 by the way..

No untethered jailbreak for 4.3.5 yet. Update to 4.2.1 to get the new features.
Until the next time… And if I help you out, give me a "Thanks!" Thanks!

iTunes won't let me update to 4.2.1 though. Is it because the iPad baseband 06.15.00 on my phone?

Yes. You can't updates usin a stadard firmware. I use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware to update with the iPad baseband.

PwnageTool is only for Mac, right? I'm using Windows.

The maximum full untethered jailbreak is 4.3.3.

The iPad BB does not prevent a restore. 3GS restores require previously saved SHSH blobs. They are needed for each version except iOS 4.1 and the current version. Without a 4.2.1 SHSH blob, iTunes will disallow the restore.

If you have a 4.2.1 SHSH blob, use sn0wbreeze (PC) to create a custom firmware, run Tiny Umbrella + TSS server, and shift/select restore cfw w/iTunes.

A carrier or any SiM unlock is possible by installing the iPad 6.15.0 baseband.

Use Pwnage or Sn0wbreeze and build a custom firmware for 4.3.3.
Select Expert Mode, and 'activate' ...IF... you're not an official carrier (ie AT&T).
Continue with pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze and enter 'pwnd-DFU' mode.
Start TU + TSS server. Make sure TSS server is running.
Shift / select restore to custom firmware 4.3.3 w/iTunes.

If any iTunes Errors, stop and post.

Future restores are not effected by a custom firmware. You might be thinking about the iPad BB stuff - Don't select that !!
Custom firmware is the same as a regular firmware without a baseband change and Cydia already installed.
Pwnagetool and Sn0wbreeze are one-stop/shop utilities

BTW: Restoring to the latest 4.3.5 is always available --- but it can NOT be fully jailbroken. Stay away.

Oh you installed the iPad BB. Uggg.
I'm not aware of any youtube for this .... and .... you might run into a problem because of it.

Give the prior instructions a try ....

.....if iTunes reports an error restoring the custom firmware,
Download FixRecovery (from the Tiny Umbrella web site), extract the zip file.
Put the 3GS into ..normal.. DFU mode and run fixrecovery43

ultrasn0w (via Cydia) for the unlock.

When using Tiny Umbrella, don't edit the hosts file.

You're welcome. Glad it all worked

Question: Did iTunes report an error and fixrecovery43 worked? Or no iTunes error (I hope) ?
