This error is common when downgrading iPhones and 3G iPads. The problem occurs when the device's baseband has a higher version number than the baseband in the firmware you restored to. Just set auto-boot true in iRecovery or use iREB/TinyUmbrella/RecBoot.1 In case this is not working use Pwnage Tool to create a custom firmware WITHOUT the iPad baseband, put your device in pwned DFU Mode and restore via iTunes.

actually, i am trying to go to a higher baseband. i am trying to load 5.1 or 6.0. i have dl both, and have tried both. but continue to get the "usb communication problem" error. can you explain how i use these other tools, as i have only ever used redsnow?

Neither of those numbers are basebands.

Once you get error 1015, use TinyUmbrella's Exit Recovery option. The phone should boot up fine.

as seems to be the case with everything else i have tried to do, it didn't boot up fine. i used tinyumbrella, but it didn't put the phone back into reg mode. still stuck in the loop.

no. because ireb is impossible to find, and every site i looked for it was shut down, or filled with dubious things trying to get on your computer. i'm researching irecovery now. what is a trusted site to dl these things? got libusb, but doesn't seem to do anything but screw up my system. why can't the apple enthusiast make simple to use programs, that WORK!!!? I HAVE NEVER HAD THESE KINDS OF PROBLEMS WITH ANY OTHER KIND OF PHONE, OR PRODUCT. if irecovery needs libusb, why didn't they write libusb into the program? why do i need to locate, read a book about how to load, and then load twenty different programs to do one supposedly simple thing?
why doesn't itunes recovery wipe clean the iphone and load a new system the way windows can? if itunes is the parent program for these devices, then it should be able to supersede all other programs!
is there not a way to just recover the phone? i mean if i could keep it like it was, that would be great. but at this point, i don't even care. if it updates to any ios out there. just recover it so i can get my information off of it, and be done with it!

if i try to run irecovery without libusb, it won't run. if i load libusb, then it screws up the apple usb driver. so irecovery says no iphone found. what is the deal with this crap? and to boot, i am just finding out that this is a 3g, not a 3gs. so, which redsnow goes with the 3g?
