My name is Tomy and I come from Europe. I have one question. Is that thrue if I want to buy new Iphone 8Gb or 16Gb that I must sign the contract for two years with AT&T? Or I can get mobile phone without contract for prices 399$ and 499$?

    Thank you for your answers.

I forget to say that I will unlock Iphone.

You will have a problem signing up with AT+T if you're in Europe

So in America you can buy Iphone for 399$ or 499$ and that is. Without two-year activation agreement with AT&T required.

    Is that correct?

No, i done the same as you are going to do.
I bought the iphone in America, kept it in the box until i got back to the UK. Plugged it into iTunes out of curiosity and it asked me to activate with AT&T.
I simply downloaded ZiPhone and unlocked/jailbroke it and it's working perfectly.
Bought iPhone from Mall at Millenia in Florida, took home to UK and unlocked, currently using o2 SIM card

Coach, You won't get at&t service, but the phone won't be locked up requiring at&t activation. By jailbreaking the new unactivated phone, you are able to turn on the phone as if it were activated (use its features) and proceed to use a sim from another carrier.

No, you won't pay for anything if you use a pay and go simcard, obviously you could use a contract sim card, which you would need to pay for, but if you have contract, then nothing would change by swapping the sim card.
Basically, after it's unlocked, it's like buying a brand new unlocked phone with no contract.
